We want you to catch the fish you deserve.
Meet the Captain.
Keper Connell has developed a waterman’s perspective by spending his life surfing, diving, and fishing on the New Hampshire Seacoast. For the last 15 years, he has captained his fishing company, Clandestino Fishing Charters, which specializes in charters and commercial fishing. His customers come to the Seacoast from across the state and around the world – from fishermen in Moultonborough, NH to Tokyo fish markets – to take advantage of the charter fishing option which provides direct access to, and transparency with, an affordable, local, seasonal protein source.
Connell explains, “Historically, Portsmouth (and the Seacoast) has been a maritime community based around a protein source. Today, approximately 75% of all local fish that Seacoast residents eat is from Jeffreys Ledge, a highly productive marine habitat that stretches from Portland, ME to Gloucester, MA. By paying to fish, our customers travel to the source – to Jeffreys Ledge – and become the harvesters of the fish. The Seacoast’s charter fishing option – with its ability to access our historical protein source, and to do so transparently, is a critical component of the local food movement. If you want the equivalent of growing your own food, you’re going to want to catch your own fish.” Keper’s customers have come to know him as total professional, and a welcoming host with a great sense of humor.
Keper has a deep appreciation for ocean conservation and sustainability. He serves on the board of the American Bluefin Tuna Association (www.theabta.com). In the off season, he enjoys international travel. Keper holds a double major in Spanish and International Affairs from the University of New Hampshire. He lives in Rye, just down the road from the harbor, with his wife and twin toddlers.
